Samuel Organ joins the DMY Artists roster and announces new album ‘A Safe Place In Cyberspace’ with the first single ‘Default’ featuring London based singer and songwriter, Dazey. The new album follows up 2020’s ‘Complex Habitat Systems’ album, which received a range of underground and major support from the likes of the PC Music label, How To Dress Well, Dummy Magazine, Mike Posner, and artist Caroline Polachek (who included a track in her BBC 6Music Guest Mix).
‘Default’ sees Samuel exploring new sonic territory, and taking a huge step in songwriting and production ability. A ghostly but driving drum loop is complimented by soft pianos, white noise, ambient synthesisers, and featured artist Dazey’s airy vocal, ready to take listeners on a celestial journey. Talking about ‘Default’, Dazey opens up about how the songs inspiration comes from experiences of social situations. ‘I would get so anxious about what other people were thinking…my energy and thoughts were in the wrong place. I had so much self-doubt growing up that I thought there was a default version of myself that was useless. It still feels like that sometimes, but I care less now’. This sentiment contributes to the wider album context, which for Samuel explores themes around honesty, acceptance and self-belief.
Discussing the new album, Samuel explains: ‘A Safe Place in Cyberspace is the solo record I’ve dreamt of making for years now. A polarising trip that wanders between the ethereal and the turbulent. An experience that lulls the listener into a stasis, before reminding them that everything is probably not as it once seemed in the safe place. The boundaries of the diverse sonic landscape are pushed further by collaborations with people that truly inspire me creatively.’ A Safe Place In Cyberspace includes features from acclaimed visual and sound artist BABii, drummer Adam Betts (Squarepusher, Goldie, Jarvis Cocker), and producers Slugabed and Cole Longanecker.
Samuel is a founding member of the experimental jazz group, The Physics House Band - who’s work has included collaborations with Stewart Lee and Kai Whiston, as well as many tours and notable performances alongside artists like Alt-J, Django Django, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, Jaga Jazzist. The group have received high praise and support from The Guardian, The Independent, The Sunday Time, NPR, BBC Radio and Antony Fantano.
